Super U.S.A!

The U.S. wanted containment, even though we were terrified that Communism was going to spread. It would have not went well if China became the most powerful country, which would have led to communism. There was also a big rival between the U.S. and Russia. During this time, the U.S. was the most powerful nation in the world military and politically. After the Lease-Lend Act was passed millions of dollars was spent on aiding our allies with military supplies and resources. When countries attacked the U.S. did their best to fight back. A lot of money and lives were lost. All the U.S. wanted was peace and containment. The U.S. ended up in better shape than any other country at the end of the war.

Modern-Day Analysis of Cold War

Even though the Cold War was back in the days, there still is a lot of tension between Russia and the U.S., but we are allies today. I would call us frenemies! The tension helped us invent new technology, medicines, weapons and lots more. The arms race with the A-bomb and H-bomb was just the beginning of the building of nuclear weapons. Today, Russia and the U.S. own 90% of the nuclear weapons of the world. Don't want to mess with us! During the Olympics there is big competition between us. If the U.S lost to Russia, Americans would be angry because we didn't beat them. This was also how we advanced in many other areas, like the space race and when Russia launched Sputnik. Recently the U.S. president Obaba and Russia's president Dmitry Medvedev signed a nuclear arms control agreement that reduces the nuclear surplus of both nations. The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty cut the number of nuclear weapons by about a third.
